Overnight Fire Damages Priya's Market Liquors on Meekland Avenue

Fire is second suspected arson this month at Cherryland strip mall.

Bay City News — A fire early this morning at a liquor store in Cherryland is the second suspected arson this month at the small Meekland Avenue strip mall.

Firefighters responded to Priya's Market Liquors in the 20000 block of Meekland Avenue at 3:09 a.m. When they arrived they reported smelling gasoline, spokeswoman Aisha Knowles said.

The fire was knocked down in less than 15 minutes and was contained to the liquor store. No firefighters or community members were injured, Knowles said.

The liquor store will be closed today. The business owners had arrived at the scene after the fire this morning.

This is the second suspicious fire in the area this month, Knowles said. . a fire was reported at an adjacent clothing store called The Shop, Knowles said. That fire is under investigation by the Alameda County Sheriff's Office.

Wednesday morning's fire also appears to have been intentionally set, Knowles said.
