UPDATE: Police Chief Says Shooting Suspect is From Oakland

Update: Gun used in shooting not yet recovered.

Updated 6:36 a.m.

News reports Monday say that the gun used in the Oikos University shooting Monday has not yet been recovered.

There was speculation that it had been purchased in Castro Valley.

Oakland Police Chief Howard Jordan said at a live press conference Monday afternoon that police believe that suspect One L. Goh is from Oakland. It was initially reported that he was from Castro Valley.

The confusion may have arisen because the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the suspect lived in Castro Valley then Oakland after moving from Virginia.

If the man is a convicted felon as the news indicated, why was he able to buy a gun?

Your data is inaccurate...Traders does not sell guns. Bullseye and Androtti's sell guns.

Jeremy, will update this. Thanks for pointing Androtti's out. However, Androtti's website says as of Feb. 15, 2012, their FFL license is undergoing changes and they hope to relaunch guns sales http://www.andreottifirearms.com/index.php. As for Traders, they do sell gun equipment and air guns but I will double check about the retail of actual firearms.

I bought my first gun at Traders in 1968 , and have bought a few after that. They were the place to go to back in the day. Good people , had all kind of great camping goods. I miss Traders. I miss the Bay Area, and especially " Sam's".

Which news source are you getting this from, Ernestine? ABC reports that Goh had some debts, minor traffic citations and was evicted from his apartment in his former home state of Virginia.. but I don't recall reading/hearing anything on the news or from the police that he was a convicted felon.

Well, I followed up with the gun-related stores in CV to see if they could tip us off to anything regarding these speculations. See my above post regarding Andreotti's (currently does not hold a license to sell firearms). Traders also does not sell them. Bullseye did not wish to comment.
