Church Burglars Nab Pastor's Favorite Gym Shorts

Pastors pursued the two burglars who broke into a car parked at Neighborhood Church Tuesday afternoon.

Chasing criminals is usually a job handled by police officers, not pastors.

But on Tuesday aftenroon, two pastors from , stealing his gym bag that contained his favorite work-out shorts. This according to one of the pastor's wife, Tracy Teyler.

Pastor Paul Keim witnessed two men breaking into Pastor Mark Teyler's car just after 3 p.m. at the church's back parking lot, located at 20600 John Drive.

Tracy said both ran out after the burglars, who by then, jumped inside a white Cadillac and sped off.

The pastors attempted to pursue the suspects while the church's secretary phoned police.

Despite losing sight of the suspects, an officer spotted them shortly after and followed. During the police chase, the suspects ended up traveling the wrong direction on Highway 238.

The Alameda County Sheriff's Office told The Daily Review on Tuesday that after the suspects exited the freeway, they took off on foot nearby Gilbert Street and Mission Boulevard.

Though one suspect was caught and arrested. The other suspect was arrested later that evening according to Teyler.

Tracy told Castro Valley Patch that according to police, this was supposedly the suspects' third burglary of the day. 

"All this for my gym shorts," joked Teyler, who added that he did not know was stolen until after going after the suspects.

He said police aided in helping trying to track down the favored garment afterwards, but unknown reasons, the suspects could not identify where it was placed.

"They're the most comfortable gym shorts in the world. It's taken me forever to try to find a pair of shorts this comfrotable!"
