Monte Vista Football Honoring CHP Officer Kenyon Youngstrom Tonight

Wristbands will be sold at tonight's Monte Vista football game to raise funds for the Youngstrom family. Admission is free for officers and their families.

The Monte Vista High football community has rallied together to organize a fundraiser for Officer Kenyon Youngstrom at tonight's home football game against Amador Valley.

Youngstrom, a California Highway Patrol officer, died last month when he was shot during a routine traffic stop on Interstate 680 in Alamo.

All police officers and their families will be given free admission to tonight's Monte Vista game.

Also, $5 wristbands will be sold with all the money going to an account for the Youngstrom family. The wrist bands are highway patrol colors, with Youngstrom's name, his badge number and the CHP star.

"I felt compelled to do something," said Katherine Thomas, whose son is on the football team and organized the fundraiser. "It happened almost literally on our doorstep and, like him, I also have four kids and family members that are officers."

The football team has announced they will be playing tonight game in honor of Youngstrom.

The game is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.

Note: If you can't make it to the game tonight, you can still buy a wristband by contacting Katherine Thomas at randykat@sbcglobal.net.
