Police are investigating the cause of a man’s death whose body was found along the Hayward shoreline.
The man’s body was discovered on Friday around 12:30 p.m. by a California Department of Fish and Wildlife biologist in a ravine south of the San Mateo Bridge.
The biologist was monitoring plant life and found the man lying face down in the mud.
Officers responded and emergency medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.
Police are unsure of how long he has been dead, but the man’s body was in a state of decomposition.
Authorities have not yet identified the victim.
According to an InsideBayArea article, “We do not know if it was suicide or natural causes at this point or if foul play is suspected," said Sgt. Ken Forkus.
