Man Who Went Missing at Lake Chabot Park Found Safe

By Bay City News

A developmentally disabled man who went missing at Lake Chabot Regional Park near Castro Valley this morning has been found safe, authorities said this afternoon.

Luis Zepeda, 24, became separated from the group he was with near
the park's dam at about 10 a.m. today, East Bay Regional Park District police
said.

Police scoured the area for Zepeda, who has the mental capacity of an 11-year-old, police said. He finally spotted on city streets outside of the park this afternoon.

"Someone saw him walking along the street in a local neighborhood and called it in, and sure enough it was him," East Bay Regional Park District spokeswoman Emily Hopkins said.

Zepeda had wandered quite a ways but was not injured, she said.

"We are so glad," Hopkins said.
