The Alameda County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal
deputy-involved shooting in San Lorenzo that happened on Monday night, a
sheriff's spokesman said.
Deputies responded to a home at the corner of Paseo Grande and Via
Toledo around 10 p.m., Sgt J.D. Nelson said.
Fire and medical personnel were at the scene treating a
60-year-old man who then assaulted a paramedic and ran back inside the home,
Deputies were called to the scene and entered the home searching
for the man, he said.
The man was hiding inside the home and came out with a baseball
bat swinging at deputies, Nelson said.
The man struck a sergeant's arm disabling his rifle, he said.
The sergeant managed to pull out a handgun and with a deputy shot
and killed the man, Nelson said.
No one else was inside the home during the shooting, he said.
Deputies have been called to the address 19 times since 2011 for
various offenses including domestic violence, psychological issues and
intoxication, Nelson said.
