Man from Hesperian Properties Police Standoff Died over the Weekend

Ronald Courtney had barricaded himself inside his San Leandro mobile home for five hours before surrendering to police Aug. 2.

Ronald Courtney, , died Sunday at , Alameda County Coroner's Office officials said.

The cause of death has not been determined and is pending a toxicology report, officials said. Results of the test are expected back in a month.

Courtney was involved in a five-hour standoff with police that started late Aug. 1 at his mobile home in trailer park. The incident went past midnight and ended around 2 a.m. on Aug. 2.

Police spokesperson Jeff Tudor said Courtney was not arrested, but instead, transported to the hospital due to pre-existing health issues.

Police, who said Courtney had a dispute with another man prior to the standoff, responded to a report of a single gunshot. The man who reportedly had the dispute with Courtney said he heard the gunshot as he was walking away from the trailer, but was not hit.

Tudor said police determined that no shots had been fired after investigating the scene.

Courtney was likely to be charged with resisting arrest, making a criminal threat, and vandalism, but he died before charges could be filed, Tudor said.
