Local Preacher Drowns in Lake Michigan

Steven T. Link, 42, was found dead at a popular swimming spot in Wisconsin, police said.

A San Lorenzo preacher ordained three years ago as a nondenominational minister and beloved for his oratory was found dead in Lake Michigan early Thursday morning, police told the San Francisco Chronicle

The Chronicle reported that the body of Steven T. Link, 42, was pulled from a popular swimming spot on the lake near Sheboygan, Wis. at about 1:30 a.m., after witnesses noticed his hat floating in the water Thursday.

Link was unresponsive. He was taken to Sheboygan Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Link was a native of San Leandro and Hayward, and had run an electrical business until he took up preaching. He had been staying in Sheboygan since April.

Police speculate he might have been walking on one of the many sandbars that characterize the area, stepped off into deep water and panicked.

He is survived by his mother, Debra Mestas, his wife Veronica, his stepfather Peter LaRocca and three stepsiblings, the Chronicle reported.
