Local CHP Thankful: No St. Patrick's Day Fatalities

Castro Valley officers had warned in advance they would crack down on driving under the influence,

 

Castro Valley and vicinity passed the St. Patrick's Day weekend without fatalities, the local office reported Monday.

But 15 people were arrested for driving under the influence (DUI).

Two others were arrested for failure to appear in court for prior DUI citations, and CHP officers also nabbed two burglars.

All in all it was a good weekend for law enforcement.

"The Castro Valley CHP sent a clear message this weekend that drinking and driving is not tolerated in our community," said local commander Lieutenant Christopher Sherry, thanking those "who chose to drink responsibly or arrange for a safe ride home."
