Giant Toppled Tree Blocking Valley Avenue

The road is shut down in the eastbound direction between Northway and Crestline.

A giant redwood that crashed through a retaining wall during Sunday's stormy weather is blocking Valley Avenue.

Police have shut down Valley in the eastbound direction between Northway and Crestline while crews saw through the massive branches and feed them through a woodchipper.

The tree, growing in the back yard of a home on the corner of Crestline and Valley, fell directly across two lanes of traffic.

It's unknown when the road will be reopened.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for Alameda County. Wind gusts of up to 40 mph have been reported in the Bay Area.

Hi Turbo Bob, trees this big are part of what makes Pleasanton beautiful, so this is a loss. Relieved that no cars were near it. The cleanup of the street blockage should be paid for by us all. Whoever owns the property likely has enough on their hands already.

This is exactly what taxes are good for. Keeping our streets in good shape for you to drive on, Bob.

That doesn't look like a redwood.

It's city's fault for naming these old things heritage tree. It does put so many restriction on maintaining them by the homeowners and when things like this happens city and the property owner have to spend so much money to clean the mess up which could've been avoided if the law wasn't so black and white. But as one comment mentioned thank god there were no one injured. Tats the real relief.
