Gazebo, Fence Fire Causes $50,000 in Damage to Castro Valley Backyard
The fire started before 12 p.m. in the backyard of a home in the area of Helton Street near Vannoy Avenue.
A fire destroyed a gazebo, hot tub and deck behind a Castro Valley home today, an Alameda County fire spokeswoman said.
Fire crews responded to the fire at 11:50 a.m. at a home on Helton Street near Vannoy Avenue, near Vannoy Elementary School, fire spokeswoman Aisha Knowles said.
The fire was put out in about 10 minutes, but not before it destroyed the home's back deck area, including a gazebo, a hot tub and fencing along the back of the house, Knowles said.
Heat broke one of the home's windows but no flames extended to the residence, she said. The total damage was estimated to be $50,000.
The residents of the house were there when the fire broke out but were able to safely get outside. No one was injured, Knowles said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
