Foul Play In Death Of Man Found in Trash Can?

Police 21-year-old Joshua Gonzalez-Perez of Union City may have been a crime victim.

(Editor's note: In a version of this story updated at 3 pm on Monday, the family of the deceased wonder if this may have been a prank gone awry, and talk about the young man they called "Pookey Bear.")

A Union City man died Sunday morning after he was found unconscious in a trashcan on the 33900 block of 10th Street, police said.

Police are treating the suspicious death as a serious crime, Cmdr. Ben Horner told KTVU Monday morning.

Joshua Gonzalez-Perez, 21, of Union City, was found at about 6:30 a.m.  Sundaywhen a resident of the home went to take out the trash. When she opened the trashcan, she found Perez inside.

According to a KTVU report, Gonzalez-Perez was a family friend to those at the address and occasionally lived there.

The trash can that Gonzalez-Perez was found in did not belong to the home.

A memorial for Gonzalez-Perez has been put in place at the home where he was found, readers said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Union City Police Department at 510-471-1365. Anonymous tips can also be left at 510-675- 5207 or tips@unioncity.org.

Another problem: When notified of a reply to a comment I could click the link in the email to go toRead More the article. That was not possible this time. So because a small minority zooms there computer the layout should be as it is? I don't think so. All that white space means that an article that could be read with just one or two clicks to scroll through is now going to take more scrolling to view. One thing that seems to be missing in today's world are web designers who (1) change the layout just because and (2) web designers who have neglected to consider the audience. The more I look at this layout the less I like it. The font needs to be darker than it is. the blue (like in "announcements") needs to be bolder. Overall, on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 best), I rank the new "improved" design a 3.
