Elderly Man Struck by Car While Crossing Street

The 88-year-old man is in critical condition.

An elderly man remains in critical condition after being struck by a car while crossing the street in Hayward Friday evening, police said today.
 
A 49-year-old Hayward man was driving his pickup truck when he struck an 88-year-old Hayward man who was crossing the street in the area of Silva and Thomas avenues at about 5:30 p.m., police said.
 
The pedestrian was transported to Eden Hospital in Castro Valley to be treated for his major injuries suffered in the crash. He was in critical condition as of this morning, police said. Police said the driver cooperated with police. No drugs or alcohol are believed to be a factor.
 
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
