District Attorney's Office Hosting Victims' Rights Week Events

The events, scheduled at several locations in Alameda County, will offer information about rights and resources

Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O'Malley is hosting a series of community assistance events this week for National Crime Victims' Rights Week.

Representatives from the district attorney's office and the Alameda County Family Justice Center will be available at events through Friday to speak with victims, answer their questions and provide resources.

Information will be available for victims on how they can pay for crime-related medical, counseling and moving bills in addition to applications for the state's Victim Compensation Program.
 
Victim advocates, claim specialists and representatives from community organizations will also be available at the Victims' Rights Week events. The U.S. Department of Justice's Office of Victims of Crime started the weeklong event 30 years ago.

This year's theme is "Restoring the Balance of Justice." All of the community events in Alameda County this week are scheduled from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Today's event will be at the Kennedy Community Center at 1333 Decoto Road in Union City. Other events are scheduled on Wednesday at the Castro Valley Library at 3600 Norbridge Ave., Thursday at the Fremont Family Resource Center at 39155 Liberty St., and Friday at Highland Hospital at 1411 E. 31st St. in Oakland.
