Coroner Identifies 16-Year-Old Found Dead in Hayward Apartment Stairwell

Jose Rodriguez was found in the 27000 block of Manon Avenue at about 1:30 a.m. Thursday, according to police.

By Bay City News—

A 16-year-old boy found dead last week at the bottom of a stairwell outside a Hayward apartment complex where he lived has been identified by the Alameda County coroner's bureau as Jose Rodriguez.

Rodriguez was found dead at the bottom of a stairwell in the 27000 block of Manon Avenue at about 1:30 a.m. Thursday, police said.

His official cause of death has not been determined, but because he was so young and there were not witnesses to his death, it is considered suspicious, Hayward police Lt. Bobbie Koller said.

The death was potentially accidental and there were no signs of foul play, but police are waiting for a full determination from the coroner's bureau, including toxicology reports, Koller said.

It could be 30 days before the coroner's bureau determines his cause of death, Koller said.
