Zhang sustained two apparent gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a probable cause statement by Alameda County Sheriff's Deputy Anthony Moschetti.

During their investigation, deputies developed evidence that linked Mi to Zhang's death, Moschetti said. Mi surrendered to a California State University East Bay police officer at about 10:30 p.m. on Monday, saying that he knew there was a warrant for his arrest, according to Moschetti.

Mi and Zhang have a 14-year-old daughter and an 8-year-old son, according to the sheriff's office.

Sheriff's officials said deputies had been to the couple's home multiple times previously to respond to reports of domestic violence involving Mi.
