Castro Valley CHP Kicks Off 'Summer of Safety' Campaign

The seven week campaign begins today and will run through the end of August.

On July 16, 2014, the California Highway Patrol, Castro Valley Area will kick off a seven week traffic safety campaign, entitled, "Summer of Safety.”

This campaign is specific to Castro Valley and surrounding communities. For many, summertime is a time of parties, increased travel, speeding, and impaired driving.

The CHP will meet these challenges by adding extra units on patrol. Extra enforcement, a driving under the influence checkpoint and a pedestrian crosswalk enforcement operation is scheduled. Officers will focus their attention on speeders, impaired drivers, distracted drivers, and drivers/passengers who are not wearing their set belts.

Castro Valley Area commander, Lieutenant Christopher Sherry, issued the following statement:

“The CHP’s mission is to provide the highest level of safety, service, and security to the public. We recognize that many families are traveling during the summer. We want to be proactive in our enforcement efforts so that they can be safe. Our goal is to deter unsafe driving behavior, help disabled motorists and take enforcement actions that will result in safer roadways for everyone.”

The “Summer of Safety” campaign will run through the first day of school, August 26, 2014. Updates regarding the Summer of Safety and traffic safety information will be broadcasted on Facebook and Twitter.
