Car Crashes Into Cherryland Garage; Six Juveniles on the Run

Police are searching for six juveniles after they allegedly hit another car, drove through a Cherryland fence and crashed into the home's garage.

After clipping the front of another vehicle and smashing through the fence of a Cherryland home, a car came to a stop by crashing into the home's garage.

The 1997 white Ford Taurus crashed into the home on the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Western Bouleveard around 4:40 p.m. today, according to Castro Valley CHP Sgt. Steve Perea.

He said it seemed as though the car did not stop at the four-way intersection. Due to an incline over the railroad tracks, the drive may have had trouble seeing the oncoming silver Toyota, which it clipped before driving through the fence and into the garage.

"It looks like [the Ford Taurus] blown right through the intersection," Perea said.

Witnesses reported that six juveniles — one male and five females between the ages of 16 and 18 — then ran off, jumping fences from Peralta Street to Montgomery Street.

Perea said officers were unable to establish a perimeter. Though the salvaged vehicle had no license plates, Perea said officers retrieved "personal identifying paperwork" inside the car.

Resident Felix Macias said he was working on his bicycle in the garage when the crash occurred just a few feet away from him.

"I thought I was going to get hit," Macias said. "I didn't think I'd get out in time."

Soon after, he heard his wife yelling about their dog, Patsy, which was in the backyard at the time.

The English Setter was pinned under the car, which was empty by the time Macias got to it. His wife then rushed their dog to a nearby veterinarian.

"I thought the poor thing was dead," he said.

Perea said drugs or alcohol did not seem to be involved in the accident. CHP is further investigating the incident.
