A body found in a ravine near the railroad tracks of unincorporated Hayward on Wednesday morning is said to be that of a homicide victim, according to an Alameda County Sheriff's Office spokesman.
Someone passing by discovered the man's body in a ravine near Hampton Road and Western Boulevard just after 7:30 a.m., Alameda County sheriff's Sgt. J.D. Nelson said.
The victim is an adult black male who has not been identified, and it is not clear how he died, Nelson said. The spokesperson said it appeared that the victim suffered some head trauma. Investigators are trying to determine if the man died at that location or was brought there.
"The body had not been there long," commented Nelson. "He was not there the day before at that time."
Nelson told the Oakland Tribune that the Alameda County Coroner's Bureau expects to identify the victim through his fingerprints. The coroner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
