Authorities Identify Hayward Man Killed in Apartment Shooting

Leonard Scott III, 43, was shot in the stomach Sunday night at his apartment building.

A Hayward man has been identified by the Alameda County coroner’s office as 43-year-old Leonard Scott III, according to media reports.

Scott was found suffering from a gunshot wound to the stomach at about 10:40 p.m. in the hallway of his apartment building on the 24000 block of O’Neil Avenue. He stumbled from his third-floor apartment to the first floor, where he pulled a fire alarm to alert neighbors, according to the Hayward Daily Review.

The man was taken to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Scott’s death may have been drug-related because officers found a small marijuana grow inside of his apartment, the Daily Review reports.

That is my cousin. This is sad for our family. We just lost our grandfather that morning in Louisiana. We have a lot of family in the Bay Area planning to go to Louisiania and now this tragedy on the same day. Listen up. You can't break us. The Scott's is a strong family and hard to break. Love you all! Steph.
