Register Now For Run To The Lake Race

Eden Medical Center's annual run and walk event has become a Castro Valley tradition. A health expo will also be held that day for everyone, not just race participants

is encouraging the public to dust off their sneakers and get ready for this year's Run to the Lake to be held July 8. Registration for the event is now underway.

According to the medical center, the race benefits the hospital's regional trauma center. "The event itself provides something for everyone; a flat and fast paved 5K run/walk and a beautiful 10K course that winds along the rolling west trail of Lake Chabot," says organizers.

Nostalgia this year as old hospital closes and new facility opens

This will be the last time the race is run before the hospital moves out of the Castro Valley campus it has occupied since 1954 and into its nearby new facility later this year. It also marks the celebration of 25 years of service for the hospital's trauma center.

Race includes events for all ages and a health expo for the public

The race begins at 8 a.m. and includes a 5k/10k walk, run and kids dash. there will also be a free health expo at the event. The health expo runs from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m.

According to the hospital, "The Health Expo is open to the entire community, runners and non-runners alike. This festive event offers free health information, health screenings, free expired medication/mercury thermometer drop off, music, free goodies and refreshments. There’s a little something for everyone, so don’t miss out! New this year - $5 photo booth with 100% of proceeds benefiting trauma prevention education programs."

Courses designed for all participant skill levels

"Both race courses", says the hospital, "run from Eden Medical Center to Lake Chabot and back. The 5K course is mostly flat and fast on paved surfaces. The 10K course winds along the rolling west trail of beautiful Lake Chabot, with paved and trail surfaces." You can see the race course map here.

Beginning at 9:30 a.m. there will be a non-competitive 50 to 100 yard dash for children ages 3 through 8 dash.  According to the hospital, every child will be a winner and each participant will receive a t-shirt, finisher ribbon, and goody bag.

Special awards will go to public safety and first responder runners

In appreciation and recognition of all public safety and first responders who protect the community, Eden Medical Center says it is awarding customized medals to the top 3 men and top 3 women finishers in a special Public Safety/First Responder Division, in both the 5K & 10K races.

Another problem: When notified of a reply to a comment I could click the link in the email to go toRead More the article. That was not possible this time. So because a small minority zooms there computer the layout should be as it is? I don't think so. All that white space means that an article that could be read with just one or two clicks to scroll through is now going to take more scrolling to view. One thing that seems to be missing in today's world are web designers who (1) change the layout just because and (2) web designers who have neglected to consider the audience. The more I look at this layout the less I like it. The font needs to be darker than it is. the blue (like in "announcements") needs to be bolder. Overall, on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 best), I rank the new "improved" design a 3.
