What Should Go Here: JD's and Palomares Cafe

What do you think should fill the spaces of these closed-down restaurants?

This week we reported on two long-time Castro Valley restaurants that have closed their doors.

while .

If you could bring new business into these spaces, what type of establishment would you like to see?

What do you think they could do differently than the previous eateries to keep their doors open?

Post your suggestions in the comments section below.

While the business space remains empty the windows should be plastered with posters of Nate Miley with the caption, "Another Business Killed by Your Supervisor and His IdioticStreetscape Project" or "Castro Valley - Sorry, Under Construction for the Next Two Years - Come Back in 2014"

Castro Valley needs a Jamba Juice.

Since restaurant buildings generally have all the restaurant equipment already in place, they tend to attract replacement restaurants. We certainly could use a couple of better-than-diner style restaurants here, especially since we just lost one. Perhaps the county could prevail on the landlords of 580 Market Place to lower the rent (rumored to be $13,000 per month) so a decent eatery could survive in the Palomares location. Oh! Excuse me! I forgot the county doesn't appear to care about bringing new business to Castro Valley - except for Asian restaurants! Another rent rumor re 580 Market Place: If the rent hadn't been so high in the old PW location we might have had a Lunardi's here instead of another uneeded Safeway (so sayeth the Lunardi people).

Let's do something proactive to help save the businesses that still are here! Community members are joining together for our first-ever cash mob this Saturday 3/24. A "Cash Mob" is an event where people show up and pledge to spend $20 in cash at a local business. For more information, find us on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Cash-Mob-Castro-Valley-CA/201213983316163) or Twitter (@CashMobCV) or send an email to cashmobcv@gmail.com. We'd love to have as many people as possible show up to make a statement that Castro Valley supports local businesses!

Move Pyzano's into the old Palomares Cafe site. Bigger, cleaner, outdoor seating and full bar area. Then get a smaller (Jamba Juice) type in the old Pyzano's spot.

If the rent wasn't soooooo high, I would have opened a wonderful Mediterranean Restaurant in that plaza. Instead we opened one in Oaklands Financial District. We currently have 4.5 stars on yelp, and I know Castro Valley residents would love the restaurant. Also I live in Castro Valley, so it would have been great to live about 3 minutes away from the restaurant, rather than being stuck in traffic every day.
