Since the property isn't generating any revenue, and there are no other bookstores nearby, I would suggest that the landlord donate the use of this space to the Friends of Castro Valley Library to open a used book shop. It would help the Village to look like a thriving place. Such a shop could be closed up fairly quickly if a new tenant is found. They might even be able to write off some of the cost as a tax deduction.

I know well the man who made the offer to the landlord who wanted to go back in to the space as a book store and gift shop. The reason the space is closed is that the landlord wants way too much money for the lease and clearly is interested in leaving the space empty. I think they want to sell the whole mall and get out.
