Mike "Radar" Dunn, a photographer who contributed to Concord Patch as well as other local news outlets, passed away on Dec. 26 after a battle with stage four liver cancer.

Dunn's illness brought the backing of the community when it was announced on Claycord back in May that he had lost his job and health insurance. A donation fund was set up, and more than $13,000 was raised for Dunn's treatment. Donors included the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, the Concord Police Association and a number of local businesses.

Dunn passed away the day after Christmas, according to Claycord.

Mike was a member of our Monday night support group at the Cancer Support Community in Walnut Creek. The group just heard about his passing last night and we were all very shocked by the news. Mike has been struggling with his health over the past few months and also with his living arrangements. I know that he was down about his situation but always showed up at our group meetings on Monday nights. Mike was a very caring man who did what he needed to continue to deal with what the disease had done to him and even though he struggled, he was always there for other folks in the group. We are saddened by his departure but are heartened by the fact that he was able to do some things that he wanted to before he left like visit his sister and go on a vacation which he needed badly. We will miss him on Monday nights at the CSC. God bless you Mike.
