We all know what happens to us as we get older, right? We all know what happens to us when our diet consists of McDonalds and cookies. We know that doing pretty much nothing but sitting down all day is pretty darn horrible for us. We know that we're only given one body and we know that if we don't take care of that body we will have a pretty tough time going forward, both mentally and physically.
So why do we do it? I think everyone acknowledges that they would look and feel better if they improved their diet and exercised. That's nothing new. What gets in people's way?
The thing I hear most is that people are too busy. They don't have the time. OK. I completely understand that. Everyone's schedule is crazy. Kids, work, school, family. Here's the thing, though: If you don't make some time for exercise and you don't take steps to improve your diet, you're going to have to make some time to start seeing some doctors.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the number one killer in the US is Cardiovascular Disease. Nearly one in every three deaths occur from it and the numbers are staggering: 2,200 people die from it EVERY DAY! That's about one in every 40 seconds. That'll be about eight or nine just while you read this, depending on how fast a reader you are.
Do you want to know something else? You don't have to die from heart disease to suffer from it. Do you want to know what's really tragic? Many of these deaths are preventable. If some of those people just took a little time they'd be here right now. They'd be with their friends and families and everyone else they left behind.
All I'm saying is this: Do a few things to help yourself out. Everyone can get in a few hours of exercise a week. Everyone can stop eating garbage. Would you rather take some time now and feel better or take some time in a doctor's office later and feel worse?
I don't mean to bring you down. I really want to pick you up because you can do something about this! You can do what it takes to be healthy, be here a long time and enjoy the time you have. It's up to you and that should be a wonderful feeling! Let's get out there and do it for ourselves and our families.
