SLZ Village ~ I-Report ~ Too Good Gourmet

Too Good Gourmet Is Just Too Good!

Have you seen those beautifully packaged cookies from Too Good Gourmet at Macy's, and Ross, and Safeway (soon to be available at Crate and Barrel, Costco, and Marshalls)?  You know the ones--lovely little boxes decorated with flowers and ribbons or packages in the shapes of snowmen and pumpkins and mailboxes and little purses.  Do you know where Too Good Gourmet is located?  Seattle? No.  San Francisco? No.  Los Angeles? No.  Chicago? No. The Too Good Gourmet facility and retail store is at the end of Grant Avenue in San Lorenzo!  How did San Lorenzo get so lucky?

The company was established by a mother and daughter in 1998. They started "with one simple mission--to create 'one better than the animal cracker'--combining great tasting cookies with unique, decorative packaging that are as fun to look at as they are to eat."  As a loyal customer, I can tell you that their mission has been accomplished!

In addition to cookies, they produce confections, teas, dips, cocktail mixes, cheese bites, and dog biscuits, just to name a few of their other offerings.  You might think that such attractive, creative packaging would be a sleight of hand to detract from a lackluster product; but that is definitely not the case.  The contents are as satisfying as is the packaging.  Does it sound too good to be true?  Well, it gets even better.  When you visit the Too Good Gourmet retail store, you will pay substantially less than you would pay at the aforementioned retail stores.

Visiting the retail store is a feast for the eyes.  There are so many products to choose from that if you are in the least bit indecisive, this may not be the place for you!  In addition to their basic packaging, items are packaged for Valentine's Day, Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.  At Christmas, in addition to the showroom, product is displayed everywhere, including their large warehouse where you may sample cookies, dips, confections, and the like.

The retail store is open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Beginning the Monday after Thanksgiving, they are open every day until Christmas.  (You may have seen some of their employees stationed at the corners of Grant and Hesperian or Grant and Washington/Via Alamitos waving signs directing you to the retail store.) There is a small parking lot and plenty of street parking.  You'll know you are in the right place as you approach and smell the cookies baking!

The next time you need a hostess gift, something to slip into goody bags, gifts for co-workers, or just a treat for yourself, venture down Grant Avenue and check out Too Good Gourmet.
