Contractors Finalized for Veterans Memorial

The dedication date is set for Sunday, Nov. 11 — Veterans Day of this year.

This week, the final pieces fell into place with the announcement of Silicone Valley Paving as the general contractor for the soon-to-be built .

Along with Silicone Valley Paving, several contractors were also announced: Hanson and French Fencing, Bob Mattos of Bras and Mattos who will be doing , Gary and George Pacheco of Pacheco Brothers Gardening will handle landscaping, Jason Kaneko and Hank Henry of Red Top Electrical, Rich Sherman of Redwood Crane service will be installing the granite stones and the flagpole, and Cal Sakamoto of Central Concrete will be supplying the concrete.


Forrest Williams of Silicone Valley Paving began work on Wednesday, June 20, and hopes to be finished with their part of the project by the end of July. Mattos also said work has begun on inscribing the brick pavers and hopes they will be ready sometime in October along with the granite. Pavers will then be following the comletion of these projects installed.

Several of the memorial committee members have had concerns that Castro Valley residents and folks in the surrounding areas had heard that the dedication day was set for July 4 of this year. This is incorrect.

Dedication of the memorial is set for Sunday November 11, Veterans Day. A pre-dedication dinner will be held on Saturday, November 10, by the and with VFW Post 9601.
