After the Yard Sale is Over ...

Leftover yard sale signs are a blight in the neighborhoods.

Yard sales and garage sales are kind of fun. The buyers frequently find treasures for very low prices and the sellers make a few bucks and get some pocket money.

The only ones that come out on the short end are the neighbors. Aside from having potential buyers blocking their driveways all day, they end up with a bunch of crummy homemade signs hanging from telephone poles, stop signs, bus stop signs, etc.

It seems like the yard-salers can find time to put up these signs to announce their sales but can't find time to return and remove them. Frequently these signs have an address on them. When these remain for more than a couple of days, I institute my free delivery service and return them to their rightful owners.

I have not checked, but I think there is a county ordinance that requires these signs to be removed within some period of time. Regardless, the people who place the signs should have enough respect and courtesy for the neighborhoods to return and remove their signs instead of letting them stay on these poles until they are faded, tattered, and unsightly garbage.

Currently, I can see three such signs from my front yard that are advertising sales that were done last weekend. It is now Thursday.

So if you are putting up signs around the community to announce your event, that's fine. But please come back and remove them when your sale is over. This will be appreciated by your neighbors.
