The Corn Cob King No More?

Why I'm happy about natural disasters: They could help loosen corn's grip on the processed-food industry that is making us and our pets unhealthy.

I assume you have all heard about the droughts in Texas and all that fun stuff? Hurricanes, droughts, and floods, oh my! Well, in my opinion, the means may justify the cost in this case.

Under normal circumstances, I would whole-heartedly disagree, yet this being a natural disaster I have to change my mind since it was out of anyone's control. I believe that these disasters have done something that we as a society need, but I'm not sure if it will be enough to get us out of the tyranny of the CCK.

That's right! The Corn Cob King. The floods and droughts in the more eastern part of the country have destroyed most of America's crops that are corn and wheat. I am extremely happy that this is the case, and I hope it will stay at the level it's at or lower.

When you think of corn, do you think of a delicious, buttery, roasted or dipped or popped treat? Among other variations, yes, normally one would see it like this. Would you then, therefore, not see it where it is truly in plain sight, such as soda, animal food, meat and candy? The sad truth is that you should see it for what it is, and almost all of your foods are basically corn.

Corn syrup and meal and every variation of the stuff is the main ingredient in most foods that are bad for us and make us gain weight, like sodas and cookies and oils and other fatty foods, so with the decrease in production of corn, the price for these products will assuredly go up. With the increased price in these non-essentials, I'm hoping that the sales will go down long enough to get a few healthy habits going before corn makes a come-back and those sweets get cheaper. We may even realize that it is bad for us!

Not only is it bad for humans to consume all of this cheap sugar, but it is harming our cats and dogs as well, which is also why I am a strong supporter for the raw-meat diet for our pets. Wolves have no business eating corn, nor do cats, so why is that all what their decendants eat these days? Their systems were made for raw meats and bugs and things they could hunt for.

True, some veggies from time to time like pumpkins and carrots may be healthy, but a diet based on corn and wheat is not good for their systems. This diet makes them fat, like humans, produces more waste, and decreases activity and mobility.

An all-raw-meat diet gives them the water and nutrients they were designed to eat, more energy, a healthier coat and teeth, and a longer life. They will also excrete waste about 75 percent less than they do on a processed-food diet, and they will have a more healthy life in general.

I would definitely recomend watching the movie King Corn or Supersize Me for a more interesting view on things.

Look more into corn products in procesed foods and how they affect your body and that of your animal friend and maybe you'll see the light for change that this slew of disasters has given us the oppertunity to make happen.

Down with the old King Cob, I say!
