So I've been a nerd all of my life, really. I have probably read over 100 books in the last year alone, and many more over my lifetime, which is relatively short. Good grades and things go with that, and bullying.
Boy, do I love bullies. I might sound weird saying this, but I really do find them amusing. I always wonder why they do what they do, and why they pick on the nerds, geeks, and other mismatched freaks. They always say that they are so insecure themselves, that they need to belittle others to get a raise themselves, or they they were raised in a violent family and need to let off steam. Either way, I have GREAT news for my fellow dorks out there!
I've recently found a funny article that confirms an old rumor about us bookworms: that we will someday be better at our jobs than the prom king and queen of the prep/jock cliques. This article tells of a study done longitudinally of some kids who were on the top of the social ladder, versus those who identified themselves as social misfits and nerds. I really do like the data.
The data says that nerds, who have a tendency to go against the grain, not to drugs, and who stick to their own quirkiness, tend to keep those traits throughout life. The jocks and preps, though, tend to party more than study, which can lead to drugs and bad habits in college and beyond, thus making it harder to get jobs.
Yahoo! actually stated that it prefered to hire the quirky geeky kind of people as opposed to the average joe, so chins up, my friends! Someday we'll all be better than those who bully us! It's now a proven fact!
