In this guided tour, visitors will learn to “read” the visual and design elements of late Victorian objects. They can be interpreted as expressions of the values of those living in late nineteenth-century Hayward, but also Victorians living throughout the United States. Along the way, we will also consider how design principles subsequently changed during the modern period, signaling a shift in cultural and social priorities.
