Castro Valley and San Leandro homeowners: have you ever asked yourself any of the following questions?

  • Why is my home so cold and drafty in the winter?

  • How can I lower my utility bills?

  • I want to make my home more energy efficient, but how do I start?

If so, join Energy Upgrade California at the Hayward Home Energy Efficiency Workshop on Thursday, January 31, 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Hayward City Hall to learn about how a home energy upgrade can help you save money on utility bills and make your home more comfortable. To RSVP for this free event, visit http://eucworkshophayward.eventbrite.com.

At the workshop, you’ll have the opportunity to meet with local Participating Contractors who can help you decide which upgrades – from simple changes such as wrapping your hot water heater to more advanced measures such as installing double paned windows – make the most sense for your home and budget.

You’ll also learn about how to take advantage of the limited-time rebates available through Flex Package that make it easier for Castro Valley homeowners to earn money to help pay for energy upgrades. Flex Package rebates of $1,500 are available on a first-come, first-served basis. More information is available at AlamedaFlex.org.

Castro Valley homeowners can also support local schools by doing an energy upgrade. Through Energize for the Prize, participating Alameda County schools and schools organizations can receive $250 for every home that performs an energy upgrade. For a list of participating schools in your area, visit EnergizeForThePrize.org.

That dog was on Joseph drive on Saturday morning. I was on my way to the airport or I would haveRead More tried to help him! He/she seemed pretty skittish, poor thing.

Another problem: When notified of a reply to a comment I could click the link in the email to go toRead More the article. That was not possible this time. So because a small minority zooms there computer the layout should be as it is? I don't think so. All that white space means that an article that could be read with just one or two clicks to scroll through is now going to take more scrolling to view. One thing that seems to be missing in today's world are web designers who (1) change the layout just because and (2) web designers who have neglected to consider the audience. The more I look at this layout the less I like it. The font needs to be darker than it is. the blue (like in "announcements") needs to be bolder. Overall, on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 best), I rank the new "improved" design a 3.
