Whole Foods Is Coming! Or Not.

A Twitter mix-up briefly excited Castro Valley fans of the upscale grocery chain.

Castro Valley foodies had their hopes raised, then dashed, when Whole Foods Market on Wednesday mistakenly posted on Twitter that a store would open soon in town.

The mix-up began when someone posting under the Twitter handle @WholeFoodsNorCA responded to a tweet from @CastroValleyTV asking where to find the best burrito in Castro Valley.

"We will be in town this coming fall to provide tasty burritos for all : )", replied @WholeFoodsNorCA.

When asked for more information, @WholeFoodsNorCA replied with details about the chain's newest store in the Castro neighborhood of San Francisco — not Castro Valley in the East Bay.

"Oh no! My bad : (!", replied @WholeFoodsNorCA, after the error was pointed out. Following tweets included, "Our #SanRamon location isn't too, too far away...", and "Very sorry to disappoint! Honest mistake. It's good to see so many fans from Castro Valley out there."

On Facebook, Whole Foods' social media manager had this response today: "My name is Jennifer Lo and I manage Whole Foods Market Northern California and Reno's social media. I apologize for the miscommunication. We do not have plans to open a store in Castro Valley. We will be opening a store in the Castro, SF, this fall.

"This was a mis-tweet by our agency that manages our Twitter account."

For the record, the San Ramon store is 10.5 miles and about 21 minutes away from Castro Valley, via Crow Canyon and Norris Canyon roads.
