Weekend Planner: Electric Car Show, Berry Picking, Las Vegas Comedian, Owl Night, Kayaking

View the newest generation of cars, pick the ripest blackberries, attend a night of comedy, celebrate wildlife, and kayak at Quarry.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend. Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check our picks for the activities to hit this weekend.

Where/When: Chabot College, 25555 Hesperian Blvd., Hayward; Saturday, Aug. 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: See the future of cars. Feast your eyes on the latest electric vehicles featuring the Nissan Leaf, Chevy Volt and other environmentally friendly automobiles.

Cost: Free admission, $2 for parking

Where/When: Ardenwood Historic Farm, 34600 Ardenwood Blvd., Fremont; Saturday, Aug. 27, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Why Go: This surely will be a berry fun time for the whole family to enjoy. The blackberries are ripe and waiting eagerly to be picked. Make sure to bring your own basket!

Cost: $8

Where/When: Englander Sports Pub and Restaurant, 101 Parrott St., San Leandro, Saturday, Aug. 27, at 8 p.m.

Why Go: Caesars Palace’s very own comedian, Steven Pearl, lights up the stage and will have you laughing till the end of the show. Also starring well-known Bay Area favorite, Norm Hazzard.

Cost: $15 in advance (call to order), $20 at the door.

Where/When: Sulphur Creek Nature Center, 1801 D St., Hayward; Saturday, Aug. 27, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Why Go: Be a night owl and spend your evening with great drinks and food complimented by music by The Red Shoes. Celebrate as three now-healthy, great-horned owls are released into the wild, thanks to Sulphur Creek’s wildlife hospital. In addition, you can participate in a silent auction, live animal presentations and tours. Must be 21 to attend.

Cost: $70 (proceeds go to Sulphur Creek Nature Center’s wildlife programs).

Where/When: Quarry Lakes, 2100 Isherwood Way, Fremont; Sunday, Aug. 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Why Go: Experience Quarry Lakes through kayaking before the summer ends. Learn the ropes from certified instructors in single or double kayaks.

Cost: $60 to $66; registration is required.
