Week in Review: Big Bang Soccer and the Incredible Shrinking Romance

From an explosive opener for the DSAL Soccer League to an unbelievable "loss" that changed one Cherryland couple's life, this is the week that was.

With spring in full bloom, it seems everyone is getting active—just ask newlyweds Dawn and Adam, the Cherryland couple who lost 112 pounds together on the CW's Shedding for the Wedding. But plenty of other people took the opportunity to get out and have fun over the sunny week that was.  This week saw hundreds of kids flock to official DSAL soccer season opener, dozens of young people enjoying the sunshine at the newly-open Ashland Skate Park, and many adults getting down at Fresh Pizza's Sunday dance-off. Missed more? Here's our recap of what happened:Monday:Mysterious stenciled foxes appear to have migrated over the hill from Castro Valley into San Lorenzo, popping up at Starbucks and Arroyo High School in recent weeks. Analisa Harangozo investigated the shadowy figures, while columnist Toni Mann wrote about keeping up with the Jonesses in a Coupe de Ville. Tuesday:On Tuesday, we recapped the Alameda County Sheriff's re-accreditation hearing, including the curious genesis of the Undersheriff Lucia tomato. Native Informant Lani Conway danced the night away at Fresh Pizza, and  local boxing champion and San Lorenzo High School grad Nonito “Flash” Donaire was honored by the city of San Leandro.  Wednesday:The price of everything—from gasoline to water— is getting more expensive. BART weighed how to spend millions, while one Cherryland couple celebrated the biggest loss of their lives—112 pounds they dropped before the finale of Shedding for the Wedding Wednesday.  Thursday:A profile of California Republican Tom Del Beccaro got blood boiling in the comments section. BART appointed a new interim general manager after the former GM stepped down suddenly.  Also on Thursday, Earth Day enthusiasts encouraged San Lorenzo Unified students to enter the "Teach Me How To Green It" video contest. Friday:On Friday, Cherryland's Easter bunny got a $300 makeover in preparation for Saturday's Eggstravaganza. Thousands of locals rushed to finish their taxes, even as new unemployment data for March poked a hole in early optimism from employment data in February. Saturday:A plea to animal-lovers this kitten season included some of the cutest kitten-pics we've seen in a while. Patch announced the launch of its iPhone App — did you get it yet?—and Sunday:KIPP Summit Academy added another feather to its cap this week when it earned the Distinguished School Award, the only district school to do so.
