The new hospital was on display Saturday as the community toured the facility. Take a visual stroll through the hospital that will officially open December 1.

"We'll never see this place like this again" one visitor said as he walked along the hallway near the labor and delivery rooms at the new Eden Hospital.

And he was right. Come December, the particular hallway will be filled with the sounds associted with child birth.

The $320 Million hospital broke ground on July 9, 2009 and is slated to open on December 1st. The center will have 130 beds over 220,000 square feet.

"It's very beautiful" Castro Valley resident Lucy Covarrubias said as she walked about the facility.

The beauty she refers to is by design.

There are a number of architectual aspects of the building that are purely for aesthetics.

The blue windows are among them as well as the exterior lighting and the glowing effect from the windows which can be seen from many areas in Castro Valley.

Sutter shared some interesting facts regarding the new building via press release this week:

  1. 80,000 square feet of medical office building
  2. 22,000 cubic yards of concrete poured in construction
  3. 6.4 million pounds of structural steel
  4. 43,000 square feet of glass
  5. Built on 600 piers, each 3 feet in diameter and drilled 60 feet into the ground
