Strike a (Yoga) Pose and Meet the Butterflies This Weekend

Attend a yoga benefit and fair-trade craft show, play old-fashioned games at a fair, enjoy a delicious brunch or learn about birds and butterflies this weekend.

  • Where/When: Yoga in the Middle in Castro Valley; Friday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Why Go: Support the education of rural girls through the non-profit organization Friendship with Cambodia. Yoga instructor Nancy Leigh-Smith will conduct a gentle yoga class, followed by a fair-trade crafts fair featuring crafts made in Cambodia.
  • Pricing: Donations; all proceeds from class and craft sales will go to support Friendship with Cambodia.

OLD-FASHIONED COUNTY FAIR

  • Where/When: McConaghy House in Hayward; Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Why Go: Take the whole family out to this historic house and enjoy games, music, antique dealer booths and a pie-baking contest.
  • Pricing: $5 for adults; $3 for seniors and students; free for children under 10 and for Hayward Area Historical Society members

HEALTHY PARKS HEALTHY PEOPLE FESTIVAL

  • Why Go: Bring the entire family to learn about outdoor recreation opportunities and enjoy a day in the park.

FRESH APPROACH'S ANNUAL BRUNCH

  • Where/When: Jack London Square Market in Oakland; Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Why Go: Enjoy brunch while learning about and raising critical funds for healthy cooking and nutrition programs geared toward Bay Area’s low-income families.
  • Pricing: $10

  • Where/When: Coyote Hills Regional Park; Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Why Go: Get up close and personal with butterflies, learn to create a wildlife-friendly habitat in your backyard and enjoy garden tours, speakers and slide shows.
  • Pricing: $5 parking fee
