San Lorenzo Unemployment Well Below County, State Average

According to the latest figures, San Lorenzo's unemployment rate is well below the county average, while neighboring Ashland and Cherryland both suffer significantly higher rates

State employment data released Friday suggests San Lorenzo may not be suffering from the ongoing economic crisis as it once was, though neighboring Ashland and Cherryland each have among the highest rates of unemployment in the county.

San Lorenzo's unemployment rate was 8.2 percent in October, three points below the Alameda County unemployment figures and significantly better than the 12.4 percent state average. The national unemployment rate remains steady at 9.6 percent.

Meanwhile, Cherryland and Ashland continue to suffer the second and third highest unemployment rates in the county, at 15.9 percent and 12.7 percent, respectively. Only Oakland fared worse, with 16.6 percent unemployed.
