Power Restored To Thousands In Bay Area

15,000 customers have been without power since 2:21 a.m. in parts of Castro Valley and Hayward

Bay City News — Tens of thousands of customers have had their power restored in the East Bay this morning after an overnight outage affected nearly 29,000 PG&E customers, a utility spokeswoman said.

Power was restored to all but 208 customers in North Richmond by 5 a.m. Power had gone out around 11:15 p.m. Friday night to more than 28,000 customers in Richmond because of a transmission outage, spokeswoman Jana Morris said.

Power was expected to be fully restored by 5:30 a.m., Morris said. At least 700 other customers in Berkeley were also affected by outages late Friday night but have since had power restored, Morris said.

Elsewhere in the Bay Area, 15,000 customers have been without power since 2:21 a.m. in parts of Castro Valley and Hayward.

As many as 19,000 customers were initially impacted by the outage, Morris said. The outage is believed to be a transmission or substation outage, Morris said.

Crews are on site trying to identify the cause.

In Redwood City, 814 customers along Brewster Avenue do not have power this morning. Power went out just before 3 a.m. there. Crews are working on repairs, Morris said.
