Photos: 'Meet In the Street' Christens Boulevard

Celebrate the completion of the Castro Valley Blvd Redevelopment Project.

Hundreds turned out Saturday for the "Meet in the Street" celebration along Castro Valley Boulevard.

A stretch of the normally busy throughfare was closed to motor vehicle traffic and open to foot traffic.

There was live music, face painting, local business booths and more.

Knudsen's Ice Creamery gave away free ice cream cones including their seasonal special,  Sweet Potato Pie ice cream. They gave away 26 gallons of ice cream in all.

The attractions include a light parade which lasted about 45 minutes.

Not everyone was in a festiv mood.

"There's really nothing to clebrate" said Syavash Alaee, owner of Lucca Italian Delicatessen. "Nine million dollars for three blocks and five people working for three years. During that time four popular old restaurants went out of business."
