PHOTOS: Funds For the Dead

The Hayward Area Historical Society raised funds for San Lorenzo's Pioneer Cemetery on Saturday with a BBQ event.

The Hayward Area Historical Society (HAHS) held  to raise funding for the 108-year-old burial ground located at the corner of Hesperian Boulevard and College Street.

Attendees of Saturday's fundraiser began their afternoon with a barbecue at Meek Estate Park.

Hamburgers and sausages were served up with watermelon, cupcakes, drinks and all of the fixings. Medieval- and Celtic-inspired tunes were provided by Threefires.

The party eventually moved to Pioneer Cemetery, where Heather Farquhar of HAHS lead a tour around the final resting place.

Folks were able to gander at tombstones and burial plots of local historic figures like John Lewelling and Willaim Meek.
