Local Drug, Alcohol Prevention Programs Get Temporary Reprieve

Project Eden, CommPre and the Davis Street Family Resource Center programs are safe for three months, while they appeal a funding cut by Alameda County.

Three nearby drug and alcohol prevention programs that were scheduled to lose funding July 1 have been tossed a temporary lifeline by Alameda County, the Oakland Tribune reports.

CommPre, a community drug prevention program based in Hayward; Project Eden, which provides school-based programs; and prevention services offered by the Davis Street Family Resource Center in San Leandro were all on the chopping block.

The cuts were largely unexpected by the organizations' staff members, and all three groups are appealing them. The county's health care services agency has reinstated funding for three months while the appeals process plays out, according to this Tribune article.
