2. ZOOKIDS: SKINS AND SCALES
Where/When: Oakland Zoo; Saturday, April 30, at 9 a.m.
Why Go: This program for ages 4 and 5 will teach kids how skins and scales help animals to survive in their habitats. Program includes a theme-based game, mini-hike, snack (grapes and apple juice), craft and free play.
Pricing: $20 for members; $23 for non-members. Pre-registration required.
Where/When: Hayward Shoreline Interpretive Center; Saturday, April 30, from 11 a.m. to noon
Why Go: Take your kids to assist the Interpretive Center staff during the daily feeding at the shark tank. Plus, learn about other creatures like shore crabs, anemones and barnacles.

Where/When: Bal Theatre in San Leandro; Saturday, April 30, at 7 p.m. (Doors open at 6:30 p.m.)
Why Go: Take your kids to see the original Karate Kid movie at the historic Bal Theatre. Plus a raffle to win prizes!

5. DIP AND DISCOVER EXPLORATION SERIES
Where/When: Hayward Shoreline Interpretive Center; Sunday, May 1, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Why Go: Over the course of five Sundays (starting on May 1), you and your kids ages 6 to 10 will discover the hidden marsh by dip netting, looking through microscopes, water testing, bird watching, fishing for sharks and more.
