HABITOT CHILDREN'S MUSEUM

Where/When: Habitot Children's Museum in downtown Berkeley; Sunday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Why Go: Check out a museum especially made for children ages 7 and under. This Sunday there is a Black History Month Celebration with a special wall exhibit to learn about famous African-Americans from the past and present, storytelling, music and interactive activities.

ZOCALO COFFEEHOUSE

Where/When: Zocalo Coffeehouse in San Leandro; Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

Why Go: This is more than a coffee shop. Zocalo offers a family-friendly kids' play area, free wireless Internet access, a game table and a wide range of beverages and pastries, so everyone in your family will enjoy this little escape from home.

Pricing: Free. Food for purchase.  

 

Where/When: California State University East Bay Hayward Campus; Sunday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: The swap meet and market is always changing, so you never know what kind of treasures you will find.

Pricing: Free and short-term parking available.

PUPPET SHOW

Where/When: Children's Fairyland in Oakland; Saturday and Sunday, shows at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Why Go: The Storybook Puppet Theatre will bring The Tale of Peter Rabbit to life. Before or after the show, check out the whimsical storybook sets, rides and friendly animals throughout the 10-acre park on the shores of Oakland’s Lake Merritt.

Pricing: $8

Where/When: Saint Peter's Adult Day Care in San Leandro; Monday at 2 p.m.

Why Go: Show your family that a little volunteer time can make a huge difference. Join the San Leandro Kiwanis Club at its monthly community service event, where they bring ice cream and cake and talk with the patrons of the Saint Peter's Adult Day Care Center.

Pricing: Putting a smile on someone's face is priceless.
