FAMILY BEST BETS OF THE WEEK

Where/When: Marshall Elementary School; Thursday from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Why Go: Celebrate “Take Your Family to School Week” with a Marshall Elementary School spin on the popular television game show, Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? Parent contestants, student participants and audience members will win prizes and gift cards.

Where/When: Jazzy Crafts; Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Why Go: Take your kids to a class where they can put all their energy and creativity into a project the whole family can enjoy.

CASTRO VILLAGE BOWL

Where/When: Castro Village Bowl; Monday through Sunday

Why Go: It's a indoor sport where the family can divide up into teams to win or just play for fun. Bumpers can be put on lanes for children 7 and under.

Pricing: Check out the $1.50 Days. Only $1.50 per person, per game, on Sunday, 8 a.m. to noon; Monday, 6 p.m. to midnight; and Friday, noon to 6 p.m.

HABITOT CHILDREN'S MUSEUM

Where/When: Habitot Children's Museum in downtown Berkeley; Sunday 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Why Go: Check out a museum especially made for children ages 7 and under. This Sunday there is a Black History Month Celebration with a special wall exhibit to learn about famous African-Americans from the past and present, storytelling, music and interactive activities.

Pricing: Free Admission Day on Sunday.

ZOCALO COFFEEHOUSE

Where/When: Zocalo Coffeehouse in San Leandro; Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

Why Go: This is more than a coffee shop. Zocalo offers a family-friendly kids' play area, free wireless Internet access, a game table and a wide range of beverages and pastries, so everyone in your family will enjoy this little escape from home.

Pricing: Free. Food for purchase.
