Where/When: Alameda County Fairgrounds, 4501 Pleasanton Ave., Pleasanton; Saturday, Sept. 17, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Why Go: Trucks with tasty treats are ready to feed you. Nom Nom truck, a finalist from the Great American Food Truck Race, will be cooking up a storm along with The Shackmobile, That’s Sweet and many other Bay Area food trucks.
Cost: $2 entrance fee, $1 discount at Tri Valley CVB website


Where/When: Amador Valley Community Park, 4301 Black Ave., Pleasanton; Sunday, Sept. 18, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Why Go: Shake off your worries and come to this free event to purchase all your necessities for the next big one! Attendees will receive a free checklist and have the opportunity to buy fully stocked emergency kits.
Cost: Free admission


Where/When: Fremont Visitors' Center, 2 Marshlands Rd., Fremont; Sunday, Sept. 18, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Why Go: Travis Turner takes the classroom outside by teaching your child outdoor sketching. Kids will learn shapes and shading while walking the trail. Ages 7-12 only. Call for reservations at 510-792-0222, ext. 363

Where/When: City of Fremont (varies depending on which site you sign up for), Saturday, Sept. 17, from 9 a.m. to noon
Why Go: Keep California beautiful by picking up trash and debris in Fremont’s creeks and storm drains that may contaminate San Francisco Bay. Pre-registration is required.
Cost: Free


Where/When: East County Animal Shelter of Alameda County, 4595 Gleason Dr., Dublin; Saturday, Sept. 17, from noon to 4 p.m.
Why Go: Furry dogs and cats are healthy and ready to be adopted. To help find the right dog for you, a dog trainer will be there to assist in choosing a pup suitable for your household. Adopters will also receive pet essentials including beds, collars, leashes, and food.
