First Bay Area Baby of 2012 Born to San Lorenzo Family

Little Sophia born in Castro Valley at stroke of midnight.

By Bay City News Service —  San Lorenzo: Your population has already grown by one this year.

The first baby born in the Bay Area in 2012 is Sophia Trigueros of San Lorenzo, born at the stroke of midnight at in Castro Valley, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Sophia weighed 7 pounds, 5 ounces at birth and was a little less than 20 inches long.

The second baby appears to have been born at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Santa Clara at 12:01 a.m. A baby girl named Brenda was born there one minute after midnight this morning, said Kaiser spokesman Karl Sonkin. Brenda's family lives in San Jose and she weighed 7 pounds 12 ounces at birth and was 19 inches long.

The third baby, and probably the first born in San Francisco, was born at 12:02 a.m. to the Wong family of San Francisco. The baby boy was delivered at California Pacific Medical Center and weighed 7 pounds, 15 ounces at birth and was 20 inches long.
