Drizzle Causes Power Outage

PG&E restores electricity to 9,000 customers who lost power during the noon hour

PG&E has restored power to 9,000 San Lorenzo customers who had their electricity service disrupted by the light drizzle earlier today.

The outage happened about 12:45 p.m.  Most people had electricity back about 1:30 p.m.  All customers had power returned by 2:30 p.m.

PG&E officials said the outage was caused when today's light rain mixed with the dust and dirt that had collected on the utility's power lines.  The result is a mud-like substance that can cause arcing in the lines.

Heavy rains don't cause this problem because they wash the dirt from the lines.
