CV Weekend Planner: Fall Festival, Remembering 9/11, Blacksmith Demonstration, Dr. Seuss, Chef Faz
Meet up with old friends at the fall festival, commemorate the 10th anniversary of 9/11, watch a blacksmith at work, see Dr. Seuss' most beloved characters and learn a new recipe from a successful chef.
Where/When: Norbridge Avenue near BART and the Castro Valley Library; Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 10-11, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Why Go: The annual Fall Festival is back to bring you three stages of live entertainment, food, activities for kids, a car show and much more. Come early, as parking fills up on nearby streets.
Cost: Free admission
Where/When: Alameda County Fairgrounds, 4501 Pleasanton Ave., Pleasanton; Sunday, Sept. 11, from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Why Go: Impact of America hosts this event in remembrance of the lives lost. Daytime activities (noon to 7 p.m.) include food, music, carnival rides and games. The evening event (7 p.m. to 9 p.m.) stars American Idol contestant Jason Castro and surprise guests.

Why Go: Discover the historical craftsmanship from blacksmith Russ Bearrows. He will be showing the tools and equipment necessary in his own workshop.

Where/When: Pleasanton Library, 400 Old Bernal Ave., Pleasanton; Saturday, Sept. 10, at 1 p.m.
Why Go: Do you like green eggs and ham? Broadway and film actor Duffy Hudson brings Dr. Seuss’s memorable characters to life. Approximately 45 minutes long.
Cost: Free
Where/When: San Ramon Farmers Market, 146 Sunset Dr., San Ramon; Saturday, Sept. 10, from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., followed by Q&A.
Why Go: Learn from chef Faz Poursohi as he takes cooking back to the basics. He will demonstrate simple recipes with fresh ingredients from the market.
